ABOUT US
Black Magic Creative is a Canadian tabletop publishing company founded by Jeremy Pillipow of Black Magic Craft and creative partner JP Perreault. The studio is creator-driven, focussing on dark, imaginative, and atmospheric roleplaying and tabletop miniatures games.
Black Magic Creative launched in 2022 with its debut miniatures skirmish game, Idols of Torment, introducing tabletop enthusiasts and hobbyists around the world to the Echo. Now, the studio looks toward the future with a full slate of releases, continuing to explore the Echo and worlds beyond.
OUR VALUES
Black Magic Creative is built on the belief that art does not exist in a vacuum. Stories carry weight. So do the people who tell them.
We stand in the fight against systemic oppression and injustice. We believe in compassion over cruelty, accountability over silence, and solidarity over neutrality.
Creators have a responsibility not just to tell stories, but to stand for something real. We choose to be intentional with our platform, our voice, and the spaces we help shape. Even when it is uncomfortable. Even when it is inconvenient.
LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
Black Magic Creative works and operates on Treaty One territory, the traditional lands of the Anishinaabe, Cree, Oji Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples, and the homeland of the Métis Nation.
We acknowledge the original stewards of this land and recognize the ongoing presence, resilience, and contributions of Indigenous peoples. We commit to listening, learning, and acting with respect as we create and share our work.
GENERATIVE AI POLICY
As of 2025, Black Magic Creative operates under a strict no generative AI policy. All current and future releases are created entirely by humans. This includes writing, illustration, graphic design, sculpting, music, and layout.
PREVIOUS USE
Our first release, Idols of Torment, did include generative AI artwork alongside extensive human made art. At the time, early versions of tools such as Midjourney produced flawed, unrefined, and highly alien imagery that matched the dreamlike and unsettling tone of the setting. We were also unaware that generative AI systems were trained on artists’ work without consent or of the severe environmental impacts of the technology.
IDOLS OF TORMENT REPRINT
We are currently working on a revised printing of Idols of Torment that removes all generative AI artwork and replaces it with new human made art. Until that edition is complete, the original printing remains available so the game itself can continue to grow a community of players. Once the AI free edition is released, the original printing will be permanently discontinued and any remaining copies will be destroyed.
The free basic rules for Idols of Torment are, and always have been, 100% AI free.
